Ugh, I hate when that happens. It's really frustrating when you think you're about to pull out that cork, only to strip out the center of a deteriorating cork. Luckily, there are a few methods that you can use to get at that wine.
You can try:
- Screw method: If you found that you just stripped out the center of a cork, you can go into your toolbox and find a screw that has a larger width as your cork. This will apply more pressure to the sides of the cork and hopefully help you to remove it completely.
- Knife method: If you found that you're left with an awkward crumbling mess, you can try to find a sturdy knife in your kitchen that you can stab into the cork and twist and pull until the cork loosens and comes out.
- Give up and filter method: if you can pour out the wine through a hole in the cork, or if you can just push the cork into the bottle... You'll be able to decant the wine through a coffee filter or strainer.
